Holmes shines at Oulton | 23.03.07 | 01.03 AKA Cobra racer Chris Holmes confirmed his place among the Formula Renault UK Championship frontrunners during official pre-season testing at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit today. Having shown impressive pace during the previous test at Snetterton last week, Yorkshire-based Chris managed a fastest time of 44.165 seconds in the afternoon session to establish himself in the top six, only 0.1 of a second off the top spot. After spending the morning session on old tyres with his team finding the balance on set up work with the car, Chris used new tyres during the afternoon and immediately illustrated his potential as a true contender for the race wins this year by topping the times. Chris only ran one set of new tyres, so couldn’t maintain first place on the timings but was still delighted with his day’s work. “We ran new tyres in the afternoon once we had the car pretty sorted, and we were fastest for a while, we carried on searching for time and the car felt better again, but we opted out of using a second set of new tyres in favor of saving them for next week’s test”, said Chris. “I thought we might drop down the times a little after not running a second set of new rubber but to have ended the test in the top six is very encouraging, I’m really happy with the progress i am making now, the team is working well and we’re continuing to find speed, but there is still a lot of work to do.” Oulton Park Circuit in Cheshire will host the final official Formula Renault UK test next Wednesday, 21st March, just ahead of the first two rounds of the year at Kent’s Brands Hatch Indy Circuit on 31st March/1st April.
