Chris salvages points from a tough weekend... | 04.06.07 | 11.14
Yorkshire single-seater ace Chris Holmes is having a difficult run of luck at the moment, visting his home track (Croft Circuit) for Rounds 7 & 8 of the 2007 Formula Renault UK Championship saw Chris have car problems in the test on Friday and qualifying, leaving Chris with a lot of work to do!

After a massive accident at the North Yorkshire venue two weeks ago with, the 20-year-old was always on the back foot with the car just rebuit and Chris' confidence low it proved Chris luck could get worse!! nIn the test on Friday the Engine blew after 4 laps the AKA Cobra Team worked hard to push to get the car out for the second session and did, however Chris missed valuable track time and never got the chance to run new tyres. The qualifying session this morning certainly didn’t do Chris any favours, just after posting his best lap the gear cut sensor failed, making it virtually impossible to change gear.

Unable to continue Chris ended the sole 20-minute session with the 11th fastest qualifying time for round seven and the 13th best lap for round eight.

Getting away well from the grid the beginning of this Saturday's encounter, Chris quickly got himself into the mix but bad driving standards in the midfield meant Chris was left to watch the drama unfold.

Running in 10th position, Chris looked close enough to be make a move on team mate Nathan Carratti, but then Buzaid and Yamamoto collided the result saw Chris lifted to 8th position, and a good haul of points from a difficult start. Chris said;

“Its always difficult in Renault to move forward overtaking in difficult but the race was made worse from the driving standards and i knew it was only a matter of time before Buzaid and Yamamoto were going to collide. I have to get the maximum out of these difficult weekends, i just need to get some points tomorrow now" , said the disappointed teenager.

Race Two on Sunday afternoon saw Chris move up from 13th to 10th and again secure some important points.

“We we on the back foot after my accident 2 weeks ago, but with all the problems we have had this weekend, we did manage to salvage some points this weekend. This gives us a solid platform to work on for Oulton Park and hopfully we can be right there!”
