Chris Holmes sets his sights on Porsche Championship | 29.10.08 | 10.46 Yorkshire racing driver Chris Holmes swapped single seaters for a sportscar at a recent test at the home of British motorsport, Silverstone. Invited to test a Porsche 911GT3 Cup car as raced in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship (PCCGB), the 21 year old impressed immediately with competitive lap times which have further whetted his appetite to enter the series in 2009. "I loved the car" said Chris after his test day. "It was very different to anything I am used to with more power and less grip however I soon felt at home and was lapping well." Able to cast a knowing eye on Chris’s progress, his manager and fellow Yorkshire racer Tim Sugden is a veteran of sportscar racing with notable success in the famous Porsche marque winning the 2005 Porsche Cup Worldwide Drivers' Award and is currently fighting to retain his 2007 Porsche Carrera Cup Asia Championship title. Tim sees a move into the PCCGB series as the perfect stepping stone for Chris to progress into the highest level of sportscar racing for which he is showing a natural ability. The Porsche Carrera Cup GB, entering its 9th year in 2009, boosts an alumni of British sportscar talent and has forged itself a place as a pretigious Championship on the British motorsports calendar. As part of the British Touring Car Championship race weekend package the Championship visits the major UK circuits and boasts excellent live television coverage on ITV4. In 2008 an accumulated audience of 550,000 per race have enjoyed some thrilling race action. Chris added "The Carrera Cup GB is a superb championship and it would be fantastic to compete in 2009. It is a perfect platform and logical step to a sportscar career in the future and therefore we will certainly be working hard over the winter to try and put together a budget.
