Holmes secures Top Ten in Championship | 15.10.07 | 13.11 Chris Holmes had a weekned to forget in the final round of the 2007 Formula Renault UK Championship at Thruxton Circuit in Hampshire yesterday, however still managed a solid 10th place overall in the 2007 standings... The Yorkshire Star, driving for the AKA Cobra outfit was hoping for a good return to Thruxton this weekend but lady luck was not on his side.Qualifying in 15th and 12th positions for Sundays two races after suffering with a problem in the first session and just not managing to find anymore speed in the car for 2nd qualiyfying, Chris was going to have difficult races but remained positive. Chris had a great first race, he had a fanatsic start and benfiting form Oakes and Carratti spinning off Holmes managed to climb from 15th to 10th. Chris hoped for better starting from 12th in Race 2 with the car working well Chris had a good start again, however on the first lap at Turn 4 Chris got hit from behind by Meyrick resulting in a rear right puncture forcing Chris to pit and leaving him a frustrating lap down and dropping Holmes from 9th to 10th overall. Chris commented.. “This last weekend at Thruxton wasn’t quite the finish I was hoping for to the 2007 season. I lost time in the first qualifying session due to a problem, and just couldn’t get any more speed out of the car in the second session, so I had mid-grid start positions for both races. The car felt better as I got into the first race; and it was a good race for me as I started 15th and finished 10th. After that result I was hoping for a good race two to round off my season. Unfortunately I was hit from behind on lap one and had to pit with a right rear puncture. I was able to rejoin but, a lap down, I was unable to compete for points. It’s a frustrating way to finish the season as I know I can do better than this. Although things haven’t gone my way this year, certainly in terms of luck i have had some good results to focus on, I feel I have learnt a lot and would really like to compete in Formula Renault again in 2008, I still believe I can win in this series so the search for the 2008 budget starts now!” ENDS << back to news
